The first thing you might notice about Czech cuisine is that it is based on meat. Or at least a very significant part of it is.

Svíčková, rajská, guláš, výpečky, tatarský biftek, and so on.

Actually, the only vegetarian dish that comes to mind right now is smažený sýr. Fried cheese.

Lucky for you, in today's world, there are options next to options, and also, have I mentioned we've got plenty of options?

Therefore, if you'd like to lead your life in Prague outside of the carnivore circle, here are a few ideas you might like!

Do you feel like trying Czech cuisine with a vegan twist?

You might want to visit Shromaždiště, a fully vegan pub. It might be more of a dinner place, though, they open at 5 pm only.

Another great project is Střecha, a vegan restaurant and a social enterprise. Other than cooking, they employ people who are struggling financially and help them find their way back to a stable life.

There are many more places - Lehká hlava (vegetarian), Eaternia (vegan), or Chutnej (vegan). It is just up to you which one you like!

Farmer's markets around Prague are also a great opportunity to shop local and fresh!

If you prefer cooking for yourself, there are also a lot more options these days. Brands such as Nature's Promise in Albert or any DM around Prague have plenty of vegan groceries.

Something more local could be, for example, Organic food Vršovice or Mňam Biopotraviny close to Strašnice.

There's also a way to shop more eco-friendly at shops such as Bout or Cirka that encourage you to reuse and bring your own packaging.

To sum it all up, even though the Czechs have a cuisine full of animal products, there are still plenty of possibilities to go your own way!

So enjoy and live well nourished!
